cowboy for herdr · effective 15 september 2026

Cowboy for Herdr ("Cowboy") is made by Duck Type. This page explains what the app does with data. The short version: everything stays on your phone and the machines you connect it to, and we collect nothing.

What Cowboy is

Cowboy is a phone app that connects over SSH to a computer you control, where Herdr runs, and shows the coding agents running there. It has no account, no sign-in and no service of its own.

What the app stores on your phone

All of this is deleted when you delete the host in the app or uninstall the app. None of it is backed up by us, because we have no servers.

Where the app connects

Only to the hosts you add, over SSH, across your own network or VPN. On that machine it talks to Herdr's local socket. Agent names, status and terminal output travel from that machine to your phone over that SSH connection and are shown on screen. They are held in memory while the app is open and are not sent to us or to anyone else.

We collect nothing. No analytics, no crash reporting of our own, no advertising identifiers, no third-party SDKs that phone home. The app makes no network request other than the SSH connections you configure, and one request to Google Fonts is made by this website only, not by the app.

App stores

Apple and Google handle your download, and any purchase, under their own privacy policies. If you have chosen in your device settings to share diagnostics with developers, Apple or Google may pass anonymised crash reports to us. We do not request them and cannot link them to you.

Services you may use alongside Cowboy

If you reach your host through Tailscale or another VPN, that service's policy applies to the connection it carries. Cowboy has no relationship with it and sends it nothing beyond the SSH traffic you asked for.

Children

Cowboy is a developer tool and is not directed at children. It collects no personal data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new effective date.
